HOPE SPRINGS WELCOMES the Tabernaculo de Athens Iglesia Christiana. The Tabernacle of Athens is a Latino congregation led by Pastor Jose Umana. They willing be joining us as a separate but sister congregation in our building at 1025 Baxter Street. We are blessed and truly excited to minister side by side with Pastor Jose and the brothers and sisters of the Tabernacle of Athens.

Alcoholics Anonymous to Meet at Hope Springs

Hope Springs is excited to welcome Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) to our facilities at 1025 Baxter street. Beginning, November 1,2011, AA meetings will be held nightly (7 days a week) from 5:30pm- 6:30pm. Monday evenings we will also host a beginners AA group from 5:30-6:30pm, and on Fridays from 5:30- 6:30pm there will be a ladies only AA meeting in addition to the daily gathering. WE’RE GLAD ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS IS MEETING AT HOPE SPRINGS!

Friendship may be one of the weakest and most powerful bonds on earth. It is instituted without a contract and can be ended with little or no impunity but it holds us together through thick and thin. It remains in tact for years. It continues to be a relationship that we hold in esteem, one we seek and which holds no hammer over our heads. It is the relationship where we share our deepest yearnings, ones we keep even from siblings and spouses. It is also one of the descriptions of our relationship with God. This week we are going to explore four elements of friendship with God and the benefits it provides!

Potter and Clay

This week I’m launching out into new territory. I want to understand our relationship with God as fully as possible. So, over the next few weeks we are going to look into the biblical metaphors for the that relationship. The first is that God is the potter and we are the clay. The surprise is that we are a clay with a mind of our own. I would rather be a lump with no will but alas, that is not how our Father in His wisdom would have it. He is a master Potter but I’m not always the ideal clay. Still He patiently labors over my raw material hoping that I will give up my independence, turn and find my freedom in His hands.

Are you deeply committed to Christ? Are you living His life and love out in the world? Are you going places and doing things for Him that are uncomfortable and a little crazy? Remember, if you’re living for Jesus on the other side of the tracks or the other side of the world you’re engaged in a war and in a war the enemy strikes back. He will try to swamp your battleship. No matter what difficulty the enemy throws at you, take courage, the Lord is in the boat!

The Power to Choose

Did you ever wonder what to next? I sure have and I’ve sat begging God to tell me all to no avail. I believe that sometimes we get no answer because God wants us to choose. You see, the power to choose is one of the things about being human that makes us in the image of God and He doesn’t teach us what to choose as much as he teaches us how to choose. Follow us this week as we begin to enjoy this fascinating aspect of our humanity.

Sometimes I get so sick and tired of the way things are going I just want to take my ball and go home. Sometimes I don’t even care if I get my ball back, I just want to go! Do you ever feel like that; Like the sacrifice the Christian life requires is more than you signed on for? Throughout the bible there are times when the people of God, even the disciples of Christ, felt the same. If you want to go, you can. You’re free. If, however, you want to stay but don’t know how. God’s got a way. Come to the altar with us today and get the strength you need to endure until the end.

Help Us Build the City of God

Hope Springs is a mission church planted in the heart of Athens, Georgia. We have established a missionary base at the intersection of four worlds. We are across the street from a huge government housing project. We are less than half a mile from a gigantic population of University students. We are right beside a high school brimming with teenagers and we back up to a middle class in town neighborhood. We are certain that we have been placed here by the hand of God. We believe that we are on the verge of an explosion of evangelism and service based outreach.

Though the door is wide open and our hearts are ready for the work we are sorely in need of warriors who will rally to us in service, prayer and provision so that we can follow the Lord’s call to enter in and conquer the hearts and minds of the people who surround us. If you are hungry to see the gospel spread, lives mended and people of all ages and stations of life discipled to Jesus Christ we need your help! If you have longed to be a part of a church plant that was full of love and the Holy Spirit, we need your help. If you will pray for the outpouring of the Spirit and power necessary for discipling the world around us, we need your fervent prayer. If you have the courage to give financially toward the building of the City of God in this place, we need your financial support.

Perpetuity or Resurrection

Take a moment. Try to picture yourself after life on earth. You know what I mean, life after death…. Having trouble? It’s only natural that you should. You and I have no context in which to consider it. Most likely, however, when you try to picture life after death it looks very unlike the resurrection life that is depicted in the accounts of the New Testament. The fact is that most of us while believing in the resurrection of Jesus have hard time imagining what life after resurrection really is. Many of us believe we turn into angels. Others and maybe most of us see ourselves as some sort of “misty moisty” creatures more like ghosts than resurrected humans. The fact is when we come right down to it we have a stronger belief in perpetuity than in resurrection. Join us this week as we consider what real resurrection life is as revealed in the story of the one whose resurrection was the harbinger of our own!
